Criminology: Workshops

Our guide to Criminology - helping you make the most of the library

Workshops and tutorials for students

We want you to get the most out of the Library’s resources and services, so we provide live tutorials and workshops for students throughout the year:

Tutorials

You can book a one-to-one support tutorial with an Academic Support Librarian to get help using the Library, working on your assignment, advice on searching databases or on how to reference – book a slot.

You can book a tutorial any time throughout the year.

Workshops and clinics

Our live workshops usually start towards the middle of the first semester (end of October). and run throughout the year. You can check the details of forthcoming sessions and sign up for them through our online booking system. Our workshops and clinics cover topics such as:

  • Referencing - this will be an introduction to the key concepts of referencing and you will have a chance to ask questions

  • Finding information for assignments - this will help you find academic-standard information: from books to journals and websites

  • Using the virtual library - this will show you how to find and use online library resources including books and journals

  • Understanding legal sources - this is a session for non-law students who need to understand UK legislation and case law

  • Dissertation drop-in sessions - no need to book, come and ask an ASL about any research, information or referencing queries you have

Learning development sessions

Student Support also run a number of sessions to help with your academic writing and other skills. You can find more detail and dates for these workshops at the Learning Development workshop Moodle page. These are not run by the library so if you have any questions about the Learning Development sessions please email them.

Book a Library Workshop

We run live workshops throughout the year to support you with using the Library and developing your Information Literacy and referencing skills.

Sessions usually run face-to-face and on Teams at the same time, and you will have the benefit of a trained Librarian on-hand to help you and answer your questions.

One-to-one appointments

One-to-one support from a Librarian

We offer 30-minute appointments, either face-to-face or over Teams, to give you one-to-one support with using Library information sources, finding resources for your assignment, research skills and referencing.

All of our Academic Service Librarians have the expertise to help you; however, if you are studying at level 6 (3rd year undergraduate level) and above, you may wish to book with the Librarian who supports your subject.

They will be more familiar with the specialist sources of information in that area, as well as the learning outcomes for your programme.

You can find out who your programme's Academic Service Librarian is, and book an appointment with them directly, by visiting your course's subject guide.
