When you borrow a laptop you agree to the following terms and conditions:
only borrow 1 laptop at a time
borrow a laptop for 4 hours or until library closing time, whichever is soonest
use laptops anywhere on the Newman University campus, but please do not take them off–campus
You may not:
reserve a laptop
renew a laptop loan
borrow a laptop if you are staff, a visitor or an external borrower
borrow a laptop if you have an existing ban on borrowing from the library
Laptop loans are additional to your overall loan allowance - for example if your loan allowance is 15 books, it would be 15 books plus 1 laptop.
We charge fines at 50p per hour or part of an hour, to a maximum of £50.00.
We will block you from borrowing further items from the Library if you have a laptop on loan which is more than 7 days overdue. To clear the block, return the laptop and pay any fines.
When you return a laptop which is more than a week overdue, it may take up to 24 hours before you can borrow or renew items again, unless you come to the Library Service Desk during staffed opening hours.
If you do not return a laptop, we will charge you £500.00 plus fines. If there is a problem with your laptop loan please get in touch with us as soon as possible.
Please save your work to your own external device (e.g. memory stick) or cloud-based storage.
Newman University is not responsible for loss of any data.
We will charge you a £500.00 replacement cost for lost, stolen or damaged laptops. We cannot accept a replacement laptop and delays in payment will usually result in us banning you from borrowing.
If you believe you have returned a laptop but it is still on loan to you we will investigate - please get in touch with us as soon as possible. If we can’t locate the laptop, we will ask you to pay a replacement charge of £500.00 as well as any fines up to the point when you let us know. You will need to pay the replacement charge or arrange a payment plan.
You are responsible for any misuse of a laptop whilst it is on loan to you. Please read the relevant Newman University IT policies.
If you find viruses or inappropriate / offensive material on a laptop please get in touch with the library as soon as possible or bring it to the Service Desk on Level 1 of the Library.
If you misuse a laptop this may be dealt with as a disciplinary matter and could mean you will no longer be allowed to use the Newman IT network and University Computing facilities and you could face further disciplinary proceedings.
