You can book an appointment with an Academic Service Librarian for one-to-one support to get help with any aspects of using the Library: finding resources for your dissertation; advice on searching databases and other information sources; understanding and evaluating resources; and also referencing.
You may wish to chose your Academic Service Librarian for subject specialist advice. You can find out who your librarian is from your subject guide.
We understand that not all students are available during our usual staffed hours. You can book in with our Evening and Weekend Librarian Mary Flower instead. Mary has appointment available between 6-7pm, Monday to Thursday.
All appointments can be conducted in-person on campus, or online via Teams.
For help on writing your dissertation, refer to the 'Writing skills' section of the Learning Development and Academic Writing Moodle page. You can also book in with one of their Writing Mentors.
Please note: when you click 'book slot', it will then become 'Cancel booking'. Your slot has been booked. Please make a note of your appointment date and time. You will be contacted by the writing mentor to organise an on-campus or online meeting. You will receive a reminder email the day before your appointment.
For more advice and information, email Student Success.
Please use our dedicated Referencing Guide. The guide explains and demonstrates the Newman Harvard style of referencing for a range of sources.
You can also attend a referencing workshop. Workshops are conducted in small groups, either in the Library training room or via Teams. Our referencing workshop covers the basic of Harvard referencing. Check out our Workshops page to book onto the next available session.
For more personalised guidance on referencing, book a referencing appointment with a librarian. Our librarians can look over your references and offer advice on how to improve.
