Generative AI guidance

Guidance about the use of Generative AI for students at Newman.

How to reference AI-provided information in your work

Please note that, at this time, Birmingham Newman Library does not recommend using and citing information generated by AI systems in your work unless you have expressly agreed with your tutors that it is OK to do so.

We recommend only using AI generated content when you have specifically been told to do so by a tutor or if it is part of your own interests that you have agreed with your course tutors that you wish to research. If you use AI generated content in any of your assessed work you must provide a reference to cite work generated by AI systems. Birmingham Newman University Library’s Referencing Guide has guidance on how to correctly cite answers provided by AI systems as well as how to provide a full and transparent reference list entry.
