We have laptops available to borrow on a first come, first served basis. You will need your Birmingham Newman ID card to borrow a laptop.
This is a service just for our students on undergraduate or taught postgraduate programmes.
Our loanable laptops are on the entrance level (Level 1) of the library. As you enter the library, turn left and keep going until you come to the laptop cabinet.
- You can borrow and return loanable laptops using our self-service system and your Birmingham Newman ID card.
- You can have laptops for 4 hours or until the library closing time, whichever is soonest, but you can’t renew or reserve them.
- Our laptops are free to borrow, but you will be fined if you return them late. You will not be able to borrow anything else from the Library if you have unpaid fines.
- Cleaning wipes are available at the Service Desk - please approach a member of Service Desk staff if you require a cleaning wipe.
- Our laptops are Wi-Fi enabled, and the library is a Wi-Fi zone. Use eduroam to connect – ask for help at either of our helpdesks on Level 1 or 2.
- At present, you cannot print from these laptops. You can find help guides and support from IT Services on the TOPdesk Self-Service Portal.
- Save your work to your own external device (e.g. memory stick) or cloud-based storage.
- If we are closed or unstaffed and you can’t return a laptop to the loanable laptop unit, return it to the Security Lodge (Level 0, St Chad building).
- You must agree to our terms and conditions before borrowing a laptop.
